Melbourne Carjackings: Two Teens Charged, Vehicle Still Missing

Two teenage boys are facing charges after a night of attempted carjackings in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, with police continuing to search for a stolen Toyota Yaris. The incidents, occurring late Thursday and early Friday, highlight a concerning trend of rising vehicle theft in the region.

Police responded to reports of two separate incidents in Ringwood. The first involved alleged attempts to carjack vehicles on Seymour Street around 11:15 PM Thursday. Officers, alerted by a witness providing live updates, intervened during a second alleged attempt.

Teens Apprehended After Initial Attempts

According to police reports, a 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old were apprehended at the scene of the initial incidents. One of the suspects attempted to evade arrest, prompting officers to deploy a taser. Fortunately, authorities confirmed that no injuries were sustained during the confrontation.

Both teenagers have been charged with attempted carjacking and are scheduled to appear before a children’s court today.

Delivery Driver Targeted in Separate Incident

Later that evening, at approximately 2:00 AM Friday, a food delivery driver became the target of another alleged carjacking on Lester Avenue, also in Ringwood. Police allege that up to four individuals approached the driver while he was seated in his vehicle.

One of the alleged offenders reportedly opened the driver’s side door and brandished an edged weapon, demanding the car keys. The driver, thankfully unharmed, fled to a nearby property for safety. The group then allegedly fled the scene in a Toyota Yaris, which remains outstanding.

Ongoing Investigation and Community Concerns

An investigation into the second incident is currently underway. Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the suspects involved in the Lester Avenue carjacking.

The incidents have raised concerns within the Ringwood community regarding public safety. .

Police are urging anyone with information related to the stolen Toyota Yaris or the ongoing investigation to come forward.
