Newberry College Soccer Players Earn Academic All-District Honors for 2025
A prestigious group of Newberry College men’s soccer athletes have been recognized for their combined athletic and academic achievements, earning selection to the 2025 NCAA Division 2 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team. The honor highlights the dedication of these student-athletes to excellence both on and off the field, setting a high standard for collegiate competition.
Recognizing Academic Excellence in Men’s Soccer
To qualify for this esteemed recognition, student-athletes must meet stringent criteria, including achieving sophomore academic standing and maintaining a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average. Furthermore, honorees must participate in at least 90% of their institution’s scheduled contests. This rigorous standard underscores the commitment to well-rounded success demanded of these athletes.
Honorees Shine in Multiple Disciplines
Six Newberry College players were celebrated for their accomplishments: Seraphin Guetan, Alex Lopez, Benji Martinez, Brayden Martinez, Tomas Queiros, and Filip Tmusic. Each athlete is pursuing a different field of study, demonstrating the diverse intellectual interests within the team.
Player Profiles & On-Field Contributions
Seraphin Guetan, a junior midfielder hailing from N’Djamena, Chad, is majoring in Sports Management. Guetan has been a consistent presence in the Newberry lineup, starting 13 of 14 games this season and a total of 32 out of 33 games throughout his collegiate career.
Alex Lopez, a senior midfielder from Rock Hill, is pursuing a degree in Digital Marketing. Lopez has contributed significantly to the team’s offense, recording two goals and two assists this season, building on his career total of four goals and four assists.
Also from Rock Hill, senior midfielder Benji Martinez is studying Sports Management. Martinez has demonstrated unwavering reliability, starting in all 14 matches this season and providing two crucial assists.
Brayden Martinez, a senior defender from Owatonna, Minnesota, is majoring in Business Administration. He has started 13 of 14 matches this season, adding a goal and an assist to his resume, and has a career total of 30 starts.
Tomas Queiros, a sophomore forward representing Porto, Portugal, is also pursuing a degree in Business Administration. Queiros has quickly become an offensive threat, starting eight of 13 games this season and scoring three goals with one assist.
Rounding out the honorees is senior forward Filip Tmusic from Cetinje, Montenegro, who is majoring in Business Administration. Tmusic has proven his endurance and skill, starting 11 of 13 games this season and 41 of his 52 career appearances.
