March 7th is not just a Memorial Day. It marks the completion of the national body, the strengthening of our Greece.
For all of us who are blessed to live on the edge of the Aegean, on the borders of our homeland, on the borders of the European Union, today is a special day.
It is the day we honor the struggles and sacrifice of the Dodecanese fighters so that today the Greek flag can fly on our islands.
It is the day when we are overwhelmed with feelings of pride and emotion for everything we went through but did not bend us, for what we suffered but came out stronger.
It is the day that reminds us of the obligation to continue honoring our ancestors, with our ceaseless struggle against the new challenges of the times.
Guided by this heavy heritage, we move forward determined wisely and with determination to assume our own historical responsibility towards our islands and their future. Because people who forget their history are doomed to relive it.
Today we proudly celebrate our Union with Greece.
