SANTIAGO (AP) — Mexico confirmed on Sunday its dominance in Basque pelota at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games by bagging two of the four gold medals in dispute on the last day of that discipline. Argentina took the other two.
Ximena Placito and Mariana Cepeda defeated the Cuban couple of Daniela Darriba and Wendy Durán 2-0 in women’s racquetball. Immediately afterwards, in the men’s competition, Isaac Cruz and Jorge Olvera defeated the Americans Omar and Salvador Espinoza 2-0.
The Mexicans finished first in the medal table of that sport with a harvest of six gold medals. Argentina was second with a pair of gold medals.
The Argentines achieved their medals on the last date with the victories in double ratchet by María García and Cynthia Pinto over the Mexicans Dulce Figueroa and Laura Puentes and in men by Facundo Andreasen and Alfredo Villegas over Arturo Rodríguez and Daniel García.
