Miami collapse, search for survivors suspended: building will be demolished

Search and rescue operations in the rubble of the collapsed Surfside condominium in Florida have been officially suspended and the city of Miami is preparing to demolish the rest of the building. The local media reported it. Much of the 12-story Champlain Towers South building collapsed within seconds in the early morning hours of June 24 while the residents present were asleep.


According to the latest communication from the officials involved in the rescue, the death toll is 24 people pulled lifeless from the rubble. But 124 people are still missing. Unfortunately, no survivors were pulled out of the rubble after the collapse. Assistant Chief Miami Fire Department Raide Jadallah told relatives of the victims that the rescue operation was interrupted on Saturday afternoon and will not resume.
