Metro Detroit Braces for Weekend Snow and Midweek Storm

The chance of light snow continues this weekend in Metro Detroit as a more impactful system looms for Tuesday and Wednesday.

The current system is bringing light scattered snow showers to the area, with fog and mist expected on Saturday night as temperatures hover around 30 degrees. Slick roads and black ice are possible hazards. Nationally, the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast will also face travel impacts as a strong low-pressure system delivers rain and snow to the region.

On Sunday, snow showers will mainly occur in the morning and early afternoon, with light accumulations possible and highs in the mid-30s. Monday will be mostly cloudy and calm, with highs in the upper 30s.

Michigan fans in Houston for the College Football Playoff National Championship on Monday will encounter rain and thunderstorms. This same system will track toward the Ohio Valley and start impacting Metro Detroit as soon as late Monday night.

On Tuesday, Southeast Michigan will likely see rain, wet snow, and gusty winds. The track of the low-pressure system and temperatures will be factors in the type and amount of precipitation. Wednesday is expected to bring rain, snow, and gusty winds, with temperatures dropping below freezing at night.

As the system evolves and moves closer, forecasts will become more detailed about potential impacts.
