Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan Mikayil Jabbarov held a meeting via video conference with Sir Alok Sharma, a member of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from the ruling Conservative Party, Chairman of the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26).
As the ministry told Day.Az, Mikail Jabbarov emphasized the successful development of cooperation with the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in trade, economic, energy, non-oil and other fields.
The Minister provided information on the energy transition in our country, goals to reduce gas emissions, renewable energy projects, work done towards exporting green energy to Europe, as well as preparations for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change COP29. It was brought to attention that the event creates good opportunities for cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UK in the field of renewable energy and combating climate change. The importance of Azerbaijan’s study of the British experience in conducting JRA was noted.
Sir Alok Sharma said that bilateral relations with Azerbaijan are at a high level and there is an effective partnership between the countries. He shared his personal experience of chairing the COP and his views on funding as one of the main expectations for COP29.
At the meeting, issues on active cooperation in the field of energy transformation, as well as opportunities for joint activities within the framework of COP29, were discussed.
It should be noted that the decision to host COP29 in Azerbaijan was officially announced in Dubai on December 11, 2023. Azerbaijan will host this event in November.
