In a five-goal game, Milan visited and defeated Frosinone 3-2 this Saturday (03). Rubro-Negro’s goals were scored by Giroud, Gabbia and Jovic, while Soulé and Mazzitelli scored for the home team. The clash was valid for the 23rd round of the Italian Championship.
With the result, Milan remain in third place, but now with 49 points. The leadership belongs to Internazionale Milan, with 54. Juventus is in second, with 53. In fact, Inter and Juve will face each other this Sunday (04). Inter, however, has 21 games, compared to 22 for Juve and 23 for Milan. Atalanta closes the G4, with 36 points.
Roma, Fiorentina and Lazio are approaching the G4, with 35, 34 and 34 points, respectively. The latter even measures forces with Atalanta. Thus, they can close the round among the top four. Current champions, Napoli are only ninth. Defeated this Saturday, Frosinone is only 13th, with 23 points.
Therefore, Milan still dreams of the Italian title, but this one is very difficult. In the 2023/2024 season, Rubro-Negro was already eliminated in the Italian Cup, did not compete in the Super Cup and came third in the group stage of the Champions League. This way, they will compete in the Europa League this semester, being their biggest chance of winning the title this year.
How was the game
Giroud opened the scoring in the 17th minute, after a pass from Rafael Leão. Now, Milan’s number 9 has 11 goals in the competition. Thus, he is behind only Lautaro Martínez, from Inter, and Vlahovic, from Juventus. They total 19 and 12, respectively. However, Frosinone equalized seven minutes later, with Soulé taking a penalty. After all, Leão got his hands on the ball.
In the second stage, Frosinone even turned it around, with Mazzitelli taking advantage of Soule’s pass. Seven minutes later, at 27, Milan equalized with Gabbia taking advantage of Giroud’s header. At 36, Milan gave final numbers, with Jovic.
Upcoming appointments
Milan will now face Napoli, next Sunday (11), at 4:45 pm (Brasília time). On the same day, but at 8:30 am, Frosinone visits Fiorentina.
