It’s often considered THE starting point of the season, the first milestone race that lays the foundations for a crazy year of cycling. This Saturday, the peloton will tackle the first Monument of the season: Milan-San Remo. A year after the victory of Mathieu van der Poel, who countered Tadej Pogacar’s attack in the Poggio before winning alone, many of them are aiming for victory.

The two main players from the previous edition will be present again. Mathieu van der Poel will lead the Alpecin-Deceuninck team, including Jasper Philipsen. Tadej Pogacar will be the leader of UAE Emirates, and will be supported by Marc Hirschi and the young Isaac del Toro, in very good shape since the start of the season. Several outsiders could, however, play spoilsport, such as Mads Pedersen, Christophe Laporte, Matej Mohoric or Thomas Pidcock.

Like every year, the difference should be made in the Poggio. After 266 km of racing, the Cipressa will give a taste of the state of form of the favorites, before they explain themselves in the Poggio, the summit of which is located less than six kilometers from the finish. In total, 288 km are on the runners’ menu.

The race will be followed from 9:50 a.m. on Eurosport 2, with live commentary on the Le Parisien website. Arrival is scheduled for around 5 p.m.
