Damascus: A bus carrying soldiers exploded near Damascus, the Syrian capital. Syrian state media reported that 18 soldiers were killed in the incident. No one claimed responsibility for the attack. A Syrian soldier was killed in a similar blast in February. The Syrian army has recaptured most of the rebel-held territory. Attacks are escalating in Damascus and other government-held parts of Syria. In March, militants attacked a military bus near Palmyra in central Syria, killing 13 soldiers and wounding 18 others. The Syrian government has blamed the attacks on Islamic State militants, who are still active in southern and central Syria.
