Mini goes under the fishermen

by time news

Vfour wheels in the corners, ingenious use of space, crisp dress. Mini has been delighting its fans since 1959. Times weren’t always easy, the British brand flourished under the BMW umbrella. Recently, however, there has been a certain standstill. Now something more moving should happen again soon. The new two-door will hit the market in 2023. The first camouflaged prototypes in sight lead us to expect pleasant constancy, mini remains mini.

The future owners can of course prepare for an interior that is not only more futuristic and digital, but also more contemporary. Instead of leather, natural fibers and plastics made from recycled PET bottles are used. Recycled fishing nets are turned into doormats. All of this, of course, prepared in a stylish way with premium standards, which pours money into the till. Incidentally, there is no talk of the convertible; we suspect that it will continue to run in its current form for some time.

It is no coincidence that the first model of a new generation of electrically powered vehicles falls on the date 2023. The future core portfolio of the electric fleet will include the two-door model as well as a crossover model in the small car and premium compact segment. The brand sees good growth opportunities in the area of crossovers in particular. The Countryman, which is already located there, is also to have a successor in 2023, with both an electrified drive and an internal combustion engine. Mini also wants to gain new markets, especially China. A plant is being built in the east in which, from 2023, “the models of the small car segment developed for pure electric mobility” will be produced.

For customers and regions who cannot do anything with electric drives for the time being, gasoline and diesel engines will remain on offer. This also applies to the extreme athletes under the John Cooper Works operating under their own brand, who, when electrified, should continue to experience limit areas. Mini itself expects electric cars to account for around 50 percent of global sales by 2027. The last new model with a purely internal combustion engine is expected to hit the market in 2025. At the beginning of the 2030s, Mini will then be fully electric.
