Cabinet Media Spokesperson Minister Bandula Gunawardena has said that it is futile to take to the streets and protest to demand a reduction in white tax.
He mentioned this while addressing the press conference announcing the cabinet results yesterday.
He further stated,

The minister also pointed out that the protesting groups should not do so and present suitable alternatives.
The Minister further said that the tax money collected from the people is used only for expenses including essential payments and salaries of government employees.
Police tear gas
In this case, Sajith Premadasa has hinted that the current ruling Ranil-Rajapaksa government will be ousted with the strength of people’s votes.
In Colombo today (30.1.2024) Sajith Premadasa said the above while addressing the party members after the police used tear gas and water cannon on the demonstration held by United People’s Power.
Premadasa mentioned that the present government is oppressing the people through state terror and state threats.
