Ministry of Industry and Trade: US does not supply critical chips to Russia

The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, Denis Manturov, said that “according to the critical nomenclature of the electronic component base” deliveries from the United States to the Russian Federation “are practically not carried out.” The minister made this statement after the news that the United States may ban the supply of chips to Russia as part of a new package of sanctions.

Mr. Manturov said that by talking about supply restrictions, the US authorities are putting domestic electronics manufacturers at risk, depriving them of an “attractive market” and forcing them to look for “alternative technology partners” in countries that are not resorting to sanctions. “Obviously, this is a continuation of the US policy of ousting any, even potential competitors, from the market. A vivid example of this is the actions against Huawei,” the minister said to RIA Novosti.

On January 19, Reuters reported, citing sources, that the White House had warned the American Semiconductor Industry Association that if Russia invaded Ukraine, the supply of chips to Russian companies could be stopped.
