The Mississippi State Bulldogs will embark on a new era of SEC football in 2026, facing a nine-game conference schedule that includes annual matchups against Ole Miss, alabama, and Vanderbilt. The full schedule, revealed on December 11,presents a significant test for the programme, especially during a daunting October stretch.

The season is slated for September 26 against Missouri. This shift too a nine-game conference schedule necessitated adjustments, including the cancellation of a home-and-home series with Troy.

To accommodate the expanded SEC schedule, Mississippi State was forced to reduce its nonconference games from four to three. A spokesperson for the university confirmed that the series with Troy, originally signed in 2017, has been terminated, potentially incurring a $500,000 penalty as stipulated in the contract for the breaching party. The canceled September 19th game against Troy was replaced by the conference matchup at South Carolina.Currently, the Bulldogs’ nonconference schedule includes home games against Louisiana-Monroe and Minnesota, as well as a road game at Minnesota, and a home game against Chattanooga.

A Grueling October Awaits

october looms as the most challenging month for Mississippi State, featuring contests against some of the nation’s elite programs. The Bulldogs are scheduled to face Alabama on October 3, followed by a road game at LSU on October 17, a matchup against Oklahoma on october AR (date incomplete in source material), and a road contest at Texas on October 31.

“There’s a chance the four best teams Mississippi State plays are all in October,” one analyst noted. Alabama and Oklahoma both competed in the 2025 College Football Playoff, while Texas was a CFP contender in the recent past and is expected to remain a national powerhouse. LSU, now under the leadership of Lane Kiffin, is also projected to improve substantially.

Taylor’s Road Test

The 2026 season will mark a significant milestone for sophomore quarterback Kamario Taylor, expected to be the Bulldogs’ starting signal-caller. Having made his first career start in the Egg Bowl and slated to lead the team in the upcoming Duke’s Mayo Bowl against Wake Forest on january 2, 2026, the 2026 season will present his first full slate of road starts.

The Bulldogs’ early road games at Minnesota and South Carolina are viewed as manageable challenges for the young quarterback. “Playing at Minnesota in Week 2 shouldn’t be extremely daunting for Taylor,” a team insider stated. “The Golden Gophers are a challenge, but not a top-tier team.” South carolina, with a 4-8 record in 2025,is also considered a less intimidating road opponent compared to other SEC venues.

The Egg Bowl and Beyond

The annual rivalry game against Ole Miss, known as the Egg Bowl,is currently scheduled for saturday,November 28,at Ole Miss. Though, there is a possibility the game date could be adjusted, mirroring the 2025 contest which was moved to Black Friday.
