‘Choose Basque even at the cashiers. Yes, it’s very easy ;)’ with the message Bankoa-Abanca, CaixaBank, Rural Kutxa, Kutxabank and Laboral Kutxa have launched a campaign to change language habits in 1,718 ATMs in Araba, Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa and Navarre until December 3rd, i.e. until the International Basque Language Day. .

In any case, the ATM is not the only initiative they will launch. From this Friday, the entities will distribute a guide to ensure quality service to Basque-speaking customers to their 4,615 employees in the Basque Country; Laboral Kutxa and Kutxabank employees in Navarre will also receive the guide.

It is a guide that we financial institutions have agreed upon, and that employees can use, with the aim of guaranteeing the language rights of consumers and users. The guide provides guidelines for dealing with customers who choose to operate in Basque, and will help the employee to avoid the linguistic stress that often arises.

According to Miren Dobaran, “responding to the customer in his own language, clarifying questions or helping him is an essential element of providing a quality service. Providing the service in Basque means improving the service and this gives economic and social benefits not only to the customer, but also to the entire organization.’

Miren Dobaran, Deputy Minister of Language Policy of the Basque Government, Marta Madinabeitia, Director of Kutxabank’s Gipuzkoa Network, and Iñaki Egizabal, Director of Laboral Kutxa’s People Department, Iñigo Calafell, Head of Rural Kutxa’s Gipuzkoa Institutions, Ana Urkiza, Basque Coordinator of Bankoa-Abanca, and Gaxpar Guembe, Gipuzkoa Director of CaixaBank’s Institutions, were present.
