1st Saudi Arabia-Africa summit: More than 36 billion FCFA secured for the construction of technical and vocational high schools

As part of the strengthening of Saudi-Beninese cooperation, the Minister of State, Minister of Economy and Finance, Romuald Wadagni, signed two agreements on Thursday, November 9.loan ds. One with the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) and the other with the Saudi Fund for Development (FSD). These agreements cover a total amount of sixty-five million five hundred thousand US Dollars, or more than thirty-six (36) billion CFA Francs. The loan contracted with the OPEC Fund estimated at 25.5 million US Dollars, or more than 14 billion FCFA Francs, is intended for the construction of modern Technical and Vocational High Schools in Djougou and Ouidah. Regarding the Saudi Fund for Development, the signed commitment concerns an amount of 40 million US Dollars equivalent to more than 22 billion FCFA Francs, with a view to the construction of a Higher Normal School for the training of teachers in Parakou and a Scientific High School in Porto-Novo.
The implementation of these projects is part of the operationalization of the Government’s vision to reverse the trend from general education to Technical and Vocational Education and Training. This option aims to impact and direct 70% of learners towards this sub-sector. In the long term, they will notably allow a better match between the educational offer and the demand of the job market; training in quantity and quality of teachers; the diversification of training offers; the establishment of suitable educational infrastructures; the growth of entrepreneurship and the empowerment of young people and women and the reduction of unemployment.
