The work will prevent the negative effects that vegetation can cause on infrastructure, railway facilities and circulation, and minimize the risk of fire on the perimeter of the infrastructure. The actions will be carried out on the track – general, secondary and section – and both in passenger stations and in railway logistics terminals.

For the treatment of the platform, the work will focus on keeping the sidewalk and transition areas of the platform free of vegetation. On the margins of the platform, preventive forestry will be carried out that includes felling, felling, pruning, clearing and herbicide treatments to control the vegetation in the areas of walks, stations, substations, telecommunications parks, high voltage lines, power lines. fiber optics, etc.

Six lots

This awarded contract is distributed in six lots: the Northwest area to be addressed by Seanto (20.7 million euros); The work in the North area will be carried out by the consortium formed by Aplinher and Servicios Industriales y Transportes (23.5 million euros); and, in the Northeast area, the work will be carried out, for an amount of 13.6 million euros, by the consortium made up of Mantenimiento de Infraestructuras and Comsa.

The Eastern lot has been awarded to the consortium formed by Coalvi, Mantenimiento de Estaciones and Environmentalia World (9.8 million euros), while the actions in the Central area will be carried out by Ferrovial (12.2 million euros. In the Southern area , the works have been awarded to the consortium formed by Audeca, Acinser Integral and Ecofilia (15.5 million euros).

In terms of prevention, Adif will launch the Fire Prevention Plan each year in collaboration with the railway operators, the State Meteorological Agency and the firefighting services in different regions. The plan and its actions aim to reduce the fire risk with anticipation, permanent monitoring of the evolution of adverse meteorological phenomena and adequate conservation of the infrastructure.

Along with the work of cleaning the vegetation on the track and the easement area, maintenance work will be monitored to prevent ignition and the temperature detectors on the train axles will be controlled. The operators, for their part, will control the condition of the brakes of freight trains, as well as the combustion engines of locomotives and self-propelled vehicles with diesel traction. This surveillance is intensified especially during the summer season.
