More than one in ten jobs affected: Miele is cutting 2,700 jobs

According to media reports, Miele is announcing comprehensive job cuts today. 700 employees at the Gütersloh headquarters are also said to be affected.

The household appliance manufacturer Miele is planning drastic job cuts. Around 2,700 jobs will be lost, various media report, citing corporate circles. The Gütersloh-based company wants to inform the workforce this Tuesday.

Miele jobs are moving abroad

Miele plans to reorganize production, the reports continued. As part of this reorganization, jobs would also be relocated abroad. This is the only way the company, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year, can remain competitive. Parts of production, including Miele washing machines, are to be relocated from Germany to Poland. In fact, Miele’s sales have been declining recently.

Reluctance to buy leads to a sharp drop in sales

The range of washing machines, dryers, ovens, stoves and vacuum cleaners is in the premium segment and suffers from the general reluctance of customers to buy due to high inflation. The slump apparently came as a surprise to Miele; in 2022, a record sales of €5.43 billion were achieved.
