Morrissey Tour Faces Disruptions Amid Health Concerns, Threats, and Industry Frustration
A series of cancellations and postponements have plagued Morrissey’s recent tour, raising questions about the artist’s health, safety, and relationship with the music industry. The former Smiths frontman has faced challenges ranging from adverse reactions to medication to credible death threats, alongside increasingly vocal complaints about a lack of industry support.
The initial disruption came with the postponement of a show due to “an adverse reaction to a prescription medication,” according to a statement released on the Morrissey-Solo website. Ticket holders were assured their tickets would be honored for a rescheduled date, with refunds available through the original point of purchase. A subsequent performance scheduled for January 6 at the San Diego Civic Theatre was outright canceled, with the venue announcing refunds via Instagram.
Morrissey’s next scheduled concert is January 10 in San Antonio, Texas. Representatives for the singer have been contacted for comment.
The issues extend beyond isolated incidents. Throughout 2025, Morrissey has canceled multiple shows for a variety of reasons. In November, he quietly called off several international concerts, including five in South America, citing “extreme exhaustion.” Just two months prior, performances in Boston and Connecticut were scrapped following what authorities deemed a “credible threat” to his life.
“In recent days, there has been a credible threat on Morrissey’s life,” a notice on the artist’s official social media pages revealed. “Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of both the artist and band,” the two dates were pulled. Law enforcement swiftly acted on the threat, arresting a 26-year-old man from Ottawa and charging him with making threats on Bluesky. He was later released on $5,000 bail.
Adding to the complexities, Morrissey canceled a concert in Stockholm in June 2025, publicly lamenting a perceived lack of support from the music industry. “The pain at not reaching Stockholm this week is horrific for the band and crew,” he wrote in a statement on his website. He expressed a longing to perform in Scandinavian cities like Stockholm, Reykjavik, and Helsinki, but claimed there was “no financial support from imaginary record labels” to facilitate such travel.
He continued, detailing the physical toll of relentless touring: “In the last seven days we have traveled into six countries, and we are travel-weary beyond belief. We can barely see.” Morrissey pleaded for assistance, stating, “We pray to God that someone, somewhere can help us reach Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Denmark … where we have thousands upon thousands of friends, yet absolutely zero music industry support.”
The singer’s frustration culminated in a broader critique of the current music landscape. “No label will release our music, no radio will play our music … and yet our ticket sales are sensational,” he added. “What does this tell us about the state of Art in 2025?”
Despite these challenges, Morrissey’s North American tour launched in September 2025, with a final performance currently scheduled for March 16 in Seville, Spain. The ongoing series of disruptions, however, casts a shadow over the tour and raises concerns about the artist’s well-being and future plans.
