NetherRealm Studios continue to celebrate the 30 years of Mortal Kombat and this time presented a video where several members of the team waved to the camera to commemorate a very important date for the franchise, including Ed Boon himself, co-creator of the franchise.
However, what shocked many is a mysterious video that appeared at the end where we see some grains of sand from a clock falling until they focus on one that ends up exploding. «we’re not done yet» Boon pointed out as he said goodbye. Although the teaser has lasted very little, the fans are already theorizing about what we could expect regarding this new installment.
Some associate the explosion as a kind of ‘big bang’ that would give rise to the formation of a new universe, which would imply that we would be facing a new restart of the saga, after having finished the trilogy that started with MK9 up to MK11 (2019).

If you played the ‘Aftermath’ expansion of MK11 you will remember that in the end Liu Kang ends up becoming ‘God of fire‘ and replacing Raiden as protector of the land.
In the last minutes of a certain cinematic we can find Liu Kang visiting the Great Kung Lao, who would become the ancestor of his old friend and who would eventually become the champion of the first Mortal Kombat tournament.
We’ll see what will happen to the future of the saga, but the fact that they already released a new teaser means that Warner Bros. is preparing to present it in style.
