The unprecedented assault coincided with the final day of Russia’s parliamentary elections, drawing accusations of election interference from city officials as long-range strikes continue across multiple fronts.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that air defenses intercepted and shot down more than 1,600 drones, with 450 specifically heading toward the capital. The strikes left two people dead in separate locations within the Moscow region, according to regional Governor Andrey Vorobyov, who identified the victims as a 44-year-old woman and an elderly man.

A facility at the Moscow Oil Refinery sustained damage during the barrage, according to city authorities, though emergency services responded quickly and reported no immediate casualties. Additionally, the Ukrainian forces struck a Russian oil refinery in Syzran, in the Samara region on the banks of the Volga River, as well as drone production facilities in the Taganrog and Oryol regions, as stated by President Volodymyr Zelensky. The governor of the Russian region of Samara stated that an industrial facility was hit without identifying it, while authorities in Taganrog stated that a warehouse belonging to the e-commerce company Ozon was hit.

The sustained aerial campaign has reached further afield, including remote regions. According to Dmitry Artyukhov, governor of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District—which is responsible for 80% of Russia’s natural gas production—the attack provoked a fire in an installation in Novy Urengoy, considered the informal gas capital of the country, without specifying the extent of the damage or the activity performed at the targeted location. A federal government representative confirmed to the RIA agency that it was a fuel and energy complex. Ukrainian media outlets claimed the target was a Gazprom unit, which did not comment. This marked the first time the remote yet strategic Yamalo-Nenets district, partially located inside the Arctic Circle, was hit by Ukrainian drones. Independent outlet Agentsvo News reported that the attack employed a modified version of the FP-1 attack drone developed by the Ukrainian company Fire Point, with an estimated range of 2,7 mil km, while the installation in Novy Urengoy was 2,8 mil km from Ukrainian territory. Previously, the record for the longest distance traveled by Ukrainian drones was 2,5 mil km, in an attack against Omsk in Western Siberia.
