In an interview with TASS on the eve of participation in the seventy-ninth session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Russian Minister noted that developing countries are not sufficiently represented in the UN Security Council.
Lavrov added: “It is clear that developing countries are under-represented on the United Nations Security Council, and therefore, as has always been said, we support the legitimate efforts and the desire of India and Brazil to get a seat on the Council this , Africa’s aspirations must be fulfilled We respect common positions in Africa, and that is how much we will limit expansion.”
The Russian Foreign Minister went on to say: “That is, our position assumes that there are additional places for Asia, Africa and Latin America. We are ready to have permanent members on these additional seats. The process is not this is easy, and I see no prospects.”
Earlier, the Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, announced that the United Nations Security Council can only be expanded by including countries from Asia, Africa and Latin America.
It is worth mentioning that the United States supports the allocation of permanent seats on the United Nations Security Council to Japan, Germany and India.
