Motorcyclist Found Dead in Sidoarjo Ditch

A 41-year-old Probolinggo resident was found dead inside a deeply overgrown Sidoarjo drainage ditch on Saturday morning, still clutching the body of his Honda CBR 150 motorcycle after an apparent solo crash that investigators estimate occurred six days prior.

The routine Saturday morning patrol in Dusun Penjarakan changed when local residents spotted a wreckage hidden deep within a roadside trench in Desa Kedungcangkring, located in Sidoarjo’s Jabon district. At approximately 8:00 AM on October 10, 2026, authorities arrived to find a scene left largely undisturbed by time but heavily obscured by nature.

The body rested in a mired, slanting posture within the deep waterway. A green and orange sports motorcycle, bearing license plate L 6553 MD, lay trapped alongside the victim tucked into thick brush and dry weeds. Layers of wild grass, dry ilalang, and fallen tree branches blanketed the lower half of the vehicle and the rider’s lower limbs, creating a natural veil that rendered the site nearly invisible from the paved road above.

Local community members in Dusun Pejarakan, also referred to as Dusun Penjarakan, were startled by the grim discovery on the morning of Saturday, October 10, 2026. The initial report regarding the body inside the ditch was received by patrol officers around 8:00 AM, prompting members of the Jabon Police criminal investigation unit to promptly deploy to the scene to conduct an initial examination.

AKP Nanang Mulyono, Head of the Jabon Police, told Beritajatim that at the location, officers found a man already dead inside a ditch with his motorcycle.

Identity Confirmed Through Personal Documents

Identity documents recovered from the clothing established the deceased as Septian Hadi Darmawan, a 41-year-old born in Jakarta on September 1, 1985. Records show he was a resident of Dusun Selatan, RT 03, RW 01, in Desa Bermi, located within the Krucil subdistrict of Probolinggo Regency. When discovered, the victim was wearing black trousers and tightly embracing the body of the motorcycle.

A local acquaintance, Oktario Hardiansyah—also known as Ambon—told police that Septian had reached out by phone several days before the discovery, inviting him out for coffee.

Oktario declined the invitation. During that last conversation, the witness reported hearing background music playing over the phone line right before communications cut off entirely, leaving the rider unreachable until the morning he was found.

Police Investigate Suspected Single-Vehicle Crash

The Jabon police leadership indicated that the physical layout of the accident site suggests a single-vehicle roadway departure.
