The International Mugham Center, within the framework of the new project “Azerbaijan Mugham”, has begun the presentation of “Lectures on Mugham” evenings, Day.Az reports.
In the literary and artistic evening, presented under the leadership of the khanende, Honored Artist, teacher Agil Melikov in the format of a mugham concert, the mugham “Rast” was performed, and an educational conversation was held about the performing features.
Growth – one of the mugams, which is part of the main 12 mugams of the Middle Eastern peoples and one of the seven main modes in Azerbaijani music. Translated it means correct, true, direct. It is one of the most common forms of mugham. In medieval music, “Rast” is considered the basis of the first and all other mugams. For this reason, she is called the “mother of mugams.” In his work “Fundamentals of Azerbaijani Folk Music” Uzeyir Hajibeyli gives a figurative description of each mode. “By its nature (aesthetic-psychological order), Rast evokes a feeling of courage, boldness and vigor.” Many works by Azerbaijani composers were written based on the mugham “Rast”.
Performances took place on the artistic, aesthetic, lyrical and emotional relationship between mugham and ghazal (a classic genre of oriental poetry), the artistic content, imagery of ghazals, and their influence on mugham music. MCM soloists Mamed Najafov, Huseyn Melikov and the winner of the Mugam television competition Ryavan Gachaev performed, accompanied by an instrumental ensemble conducted by tar player Rovshan Gurbanov. At the evening, the importance of the ghazal genre in mugham performance was discussed, and mugham dastgahs and tesnifs were presented.
