Units of the radical Hamas movement began shelling Israeli cities on Saturday, and their commandos entered Israeli territory.
They hunted down civilians, kidnapped defenseless people, killed on sight and unleashed barbaric terror. After their rampage, corpses were left lying in the streets by the time the army arrived, the gunmen were gone. In the south of Israel, they unleashed hell at a dance event where many young Israelis were having fun at the time – they killed, kidnapped… And also raped.
The leader of the armed wing of Hamas, Muhammad Daif (also sometimes translated into Czech as Muhammad Díf) described the offensive as retaliation for the Israeli “desecration” of the al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.
He declared that the attack would “end the last occupation on earth”. and called on Arabs in Israel and neighboring states to join it. On Sunday, tension also increased on the borders of Israel and Lebanon, Hezbollah began attacking Israeli positions.
Daif previously boasted of firing more than 5,000 rockets at Israel. Israel’s Iron Dome defense system dealt with most of them, but with its 90 percent success rate, it failed to catch all of them, and so Hamas rockets (supplied apparently from Iran) wreaked havoc in a number of places in Israel.
He lost an eye and legs
Daif is the 58-year-old head of the Izzedin Al-Qassam Brigades and the mastermind of numerous terrorist attacks against Israel. He has been on the IDF’s most wanted list for over 25 years, and according to Germany’s Bild, he has already escaped at least five Israeli attempts to kill him.
According to The Times of Israel, there have been at least seven attempts to kill him. Already in 2002, he lost an eye during one of these attempts, and later lost part of his arm during another attack. In 2006, during another attempt to kill him, he was seriously injured – he allegedly lost both legs. However, he escaped death again.
He lost his wife, daughter and son during his jihad
Dajf was born Muhammad Diab Ibrahim Masri in the Khan Yunis refugee camp in the Gaza Strip. After joining Hamas in 1990, he adopted the name Daif (Deif – guest, editor’s note).
Since 1995, he has been among the most wanted terrorists of Hamas due to the organization of attacks on Israeli soldiers and civilians. In the year 2014 the terrorist’s wife Widad, three-year-old daughter Sara and seven-month-old son Ali died in an Israeli airstrike.
On September 8, 2015, the US State Department also placed him on the list of global terrorists. According to Daif, there is no other path, no alternative, than “the path of jihad and fighting against the enemies of the Muslim nation” and the only goal is the “liberation of Palestine.”
“Palestine will remain ours, including Al-Quds (Jerusalem), Al-Aqsa (Mosque), its towns and villages from the sea to the river (from the Mediterranean to the Jordan), from its north to its south. You don’t have the right to an inch,” he told Israelis in the past.
“The elusive leader of Hamas’s military wing, al-Dif, has been on Israel’s most wanted list for more than 25 years for his involvement in the planning and execution of a large number of terrorist attacks, including numerous bus bombings in past years. The Israeli military considers Deif an experienced field commander,” the Times of Israel reports.
“I have ordered a total blockade of the Gaza Strip. There will be no electricity, no food, no fuel, everything is closed.” stated Israeli Defense Minister Galant. “We are fighting beasts and acting accordingly,” he added. The Gaza Strip has been under a partial blockade by Israel and Egypt, citing security concerns, since Hamas took control in 2007. The blockade has taken an economic toll, and most of the more than two million Palestinians in Gaza are dependent on foreign aid.
Germany has suspended aid payments to the Palestinians, a development ministry spokeswoman said. Berlin will now check the payments, but they say they don’t go to terrorists.
According to Kříž from FSS MU, the attack on Israel would not have happened without Tehran’s consent. Israel’s war with Hamas and Hezbollah may escalate into Israel’s war with Iran.
