The CPIM state secretariat said that the murder of S. Shahjahan, a member of the CPIM Marutharod local committee and secretary of the Kunnangad branch, was planned. The incident took place at Kunnangad Junction on Sunday at half past nine. A group of five members committed the murder. Shah Jahan was cut in the leg and back of the head. He was rushed to the district hospital but his life could not be saved. The attack took place when he was standing at Kunnangad Junction to return home after completing preparations for the Independence Day celebrations. After cutting, the five ran away.
