The most common passwords in Russia (for accounts in the .RU and .РФ domain zones) in 2021 were “qwerty123”, “qwerty1”, “123456”, “asdasd” and “12345”. This is stated in the study of the DLBI service (Izvestia has it).

Other participants in the top ten most popular passwords in the Russian Federation were “123456789”, “asdasd123”, “12345678”, “qwerty” and “123321”.

“The traditional top of the most popular Cyrillic passwords includes: “ytsuken”, “password”, “love” (up from fourth place), “hello” (last year ranked fifth), “natasha” (moved from sixth place), “Maxim” (from seventh place), “Marina” (up from ninth position), “I love”, “Andrei” (which ranked tenth) and “Kristina,” the DLBI study notes.

“Possible damage from the selection of passwords for individuals increases every year. Very often, having gained access, for example, to e-mail, attackers can reset the password to an online bank or the “Gosuslugi” service, trying to bypass two-factor authentication using social engineering. And this is if SMS confirmation is turned on at all, which is far from the rule for the same public services,” Ashot Hovhannisyan, founder of DLBI, fears.

Only 3.5% of passwords set by Internet users are complex (contain letters, numbers and special characters), and only 16.5% are long (more than 10 characters), the study notes.
