A 19-year-old woman was targeted in a robbery on a train traveling between Narbonne and montpellier on Saturday, October 5th. Two men were swiftly apprehended and have been prohibited from entering the Hérault department for six months following the incident.
The ordeal unfolded in the late afternoon as the young woman journeyed between the two cities. According to initial reports, the two suspects sat near her and allegedly attempted to intimidate her. One of the men reportedly brandished a disposable razor, simulating the detachment of the blade – a gesture the victim perceived as a direct threat.
Theft and Witness Accounts
Frightened by the display, the woman stood up to alert the train conductor, leaving her belongings – a backpack, suitcase, and handbag – unattended. Upon her return, the two men had vacated their seats. Witnesses subsequently came forward, claiming thay observed the men rifling through the victim’s bag during her absence. The woman then discovered that 240 euros in cash had been stolen.
Swift Intervention and Arrest
Civilian agents onboard the train immediately intervened, detaining the two suspects, aged 24 and 48, upon arrival at Montpellier station. Authorities confirmed both individuals are of Algerian nationality. despite consistent witness testimony, the suspects maintain they met on the train coincidentally and deny any involvement in the theft.
The stolen funds were recovered from one of the suspects and promptly returned to the victim. A senior official stated that the prosecution moved quickly to secure a ban on the men appearing in the Hérault department for a period of six months.
