Javier Gutiérrez and Nathalie Poza visited ‘El Hormiguero’ to present the film ‘Honeymoon’, “an interesting film because it moves through different genres with incredible fluidity. We went from a drama to a very black humor with touches of thriller,” revealed the actors who have known each other for decades. «The first time I came to Madrid, when I arrived when I was 18, fantasizing about the idea of being an actor, I met this woman. You won’t remember, it was her mother’s day a few days later and I was working. I gave you about two thousand pesetas to buy my mother a gift. “You bought him a sweater,” Gutiérrez recalled, looking back at his beginnings in the profession. «My mother left me money with the idea that she would return it to her and return quickly to El Ferrol because my room was left intact for six or eight years. She did not conceive the idea of her son being an actor. “She didn’t trust,” she said.
In ‘Honeymoon’, the couple shares the spotlight with a young actress. «As reality is stranger than fiction, the girl and I did not get along, even though I tried in every way possible. “She ran away from me as if she were Lucifer,” Gutiérrez revealed that he made an effort to connect with the little girl, but he couldn’t. And they took the opportunity to remember the cartoons they saw when they were children. He watched ‘Mazinger Z’, ‘Sandokan’ and ‘Orzowei’, but the one that struck him was a green giant, although the color ended up disappointing him. “I really liked ‘The Incredible Hulk,’ but I watched it on the second network, when it was in black and white, and I always thought the Hulk was black,” he explained.
Nathalie and Javier took their first steps in the profession together. «We met at a theater school and, as we had to live, we did entertainment in clubs and bars. And they paid us very well. Between 125,000 and 150,000 pesetas per session. We even made the costumes for the plays,” they advanced. And since it was necessary to innovate, they used imagination, sometimes too much. «Once we came in bloody, and we stuck junk under our clothes and threw it at people. And that smelled… We put a lot of sniffs at it,” they commented jokingly.
Trancas and Barrancas entered the scene and collected anecdotes from the guests. Poza then discovered the relationship that linked him to the most international Spanish singer. «When I was nine years old, I lived at Julio Iglesias’ house. Spend a month of vacation there. At Indian Creek. There were Enrique and Chábeli, with whom I got along very well. It was because Chábeli and I were schoolmates. And Julio was a great guy. I’m sure he doesn’t remember, but I have it engraved in my memory,” she said delightedly. Her filming partner also had something to tell, including celebrities. «For a time I was an entertainer at children’s parties and Lola Flores was at one. She was in a flamenco tablao. They were celebrating Alba Flores’ birthday. And I appeared in gossip magazines with them. How those people enjoyed those parties! “They knew how to have fun,” said Gutiérrez. Pablo Motos also added jokes. «I did a program on Canal Nou. I didn’t have boards and a guy offered because he said he broke blocks of ice with his head. And suddenly someone from production appeared with some solid blocks of ice and, live, the guy starts butting his head. And he starts to split his head open and bleed. He left as four and looked like a disaster. He started eight. And then the police arrested him because the man was wanted,” he recalled with a laugh.
