NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana said that the alliance currently does not see an immediate threat from Russia’s possible use of nuclear weapons, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.
“We have seen nuclear threats from Russian leaders at least since the start of the war two years ago,” he said in an interview with the Spanish newspaper El País. “We do not see an immediate threat from Russia using these weapons,” Joane added.
Regarding the possible return of Donald Trump to the White House, the deputy secretary general noted: “We have already seen harsh statements from President Trump at the beginning of his mandate, and then he worked with NATO.” “The United States needs all its allies in Europe and the rest of the world,” Joane added. “And we need the United States. We all need each other.” “The EU is relatively weak in defense due to a lack of investment for decades and also due to the fragmentation of the defense market,” he added. “NATO is the best partner for the EU to avoid its fragmentation.”
