Bandalur: The movement of Naxals has increased in the Malappuram and Wayanad areas of the Kerala state bordering the Nilgiris.
Naxal Velmurugan shot dead in Wayanad region on Nov 3, 2020; 5 escaped with gunshot wounds. Movement which was under control has started to be seen again. Naxals have pasted posters in areas adjacent to Thondarnadu village near Manandavadi in Wayanad district.
It said, ‘In 2019, the government has not carried out any work in the tribal villages affected by the rains. Slogans such as “Boycott the Commune-led government that does not provide land to tribal people” were written and the CPI (Maoist) was mentioned. Following this, the police are engaged in intensive surveillance in the Wayanad area.
