Kohima: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) to support BJP-NDPP government in Nagaland amid move for anti-BJP alliance at national level. NCP National President Sharad Pawar has accepted the state unit’s proposal to become a part of the government. Meanwhile, no information in this regard has come out from the BJP-NDPP ruling coalition.

The NCP fared better than other opposition parties, winning seven of the 12 seats contested in the recent Nagaland assembly elections. The remaining five candidates also got the best votes. In the NCP’s first legislative party meeting held in Kohima on March 4, there was a debate on whether the party should be part of the government or hold the main opposition position.

The newly elected MLAs and the local body were of the opinion that the party should be part of the government, based on the wider interest of the state and the MLAs’ relationship with Chief Minister Neifu Rio. The decision was then left to National President Sharad Pawar. Sharad Pawar accepted the comment.
