The Omnibus Law promoted by the Government was generally approved this Friday, February 2, after more than three days of debate in the Chamber of Deputies. As a result, the main unions declared themselves on alert and do not rule out a new general strike.
In advance of the vote on the bill “Bases and starting points for the freedom of Argentines”, the general secretary of the CGT, Pablo Moyano, warned that if they advance against the Argentine people “I am not going to sit idly by.” ” and he slipped that he does not rule out calling for a strike.

After the deputies generally approved the Omnibus Law, Rodolfo Aguiar, the general secretary of ATE, urged to move towards a new general strike. New general strike of the CGT?: what Pablo Moyano said
The General Confederation of Labor (CGT) carried out a general strike on January 24 and it was the first forceful measure against the government of Javier Milei carried out by the labor union.
During a radio interview, Pablo Moyano stated that in the coming days, when there is a meeting of the CGT board of directors, they will analyze how to continue, but he stressed that “nothing is ruled out” and “there may be a strike and mobilizations.”

Along these lines, the trucker leader assured: “I am not going to set a date for it now, but if they move against the Argentine people, regarding labor rights, sources of work and lower salaries, I am not going to sit idly by. Nothing is ruled out.”
On the other hand, the teaching unions of the different levels that make up the CGT issued a document where they announced the state of “alert and mobilization” in rejection of the chapter of the Omnibus Law project, which proposes modifications in educational matters.

Omnibus Law: what changes with the general approval in Deputies
This Friday, February 2, the Omnibus Law was generally approved with 144 votes in favor and 109 against, which establishes a public emergency, a reform of the State and the privatization of several public companies.
However, this step does not yet entail any changes, since the debate on the particular articles will resume on Tuesday the 6th after a quarter-intermission.

The initiative was voted with the support of the deputies of Libertad Avanza, UCR, PRO, We Make the Federal Coalition, Federal Innovation, Creo; Freedom, Production and Work, Good Free, Independence and Union of Mendoza advance.

Although the general approval of the project does not have half a sanction, it could only go to the Senate when the articles are approved in particular. That is, if the Senate decides to modify any article, the project must return to the Deputies, where it will be discussed again.
In this framework, if Deputies accept any change by the Senate, the approved project is sanctioned as law. On the other hand, if Deputies insist that no modification be made, they will need to reach the same majority of 144 votes or a higher one than that of the Senate.
Once approved in both chambers, it is sent to the Executive Branch and the President of the Nation can accept and promulgate the law or veto it, partially or totally. If approved, the law is published in the Official Gazette and comes into force in accordance with the legal deadlines.
