Google’s upcoming Pixel 9 series smartphones will receive a new modem from Samsung and support for satellite communications.
As Day.Az reports with reference to Gazeta.ru, the Android Authority portal reports this.
According to the source, Pixel 9 smartphones will be equipped with a new modem, Exynos Modem 5400, which will replace Modem 5300 used in Pixel 7 and 8. One of the key features of the new modem will be support for satellite communications. Today there are not many smartphones on the market with this function – only current iPhones and some Chinese flagships support satellite communications at the moment.
Initially, the new feature will be available only to users of the American operator T-Mobile, but later it will expand to other regions. In which regions it will be available in the future has not yet been announced.
In addition, the satellite communication feature has already been spotted in the Android 15 beta. However, it will require the presence of an appropriate modem for it to work.
The presentation of the Pixel 9 series smartphones, which will include three models at once, is expected in October this year. It is possible that Google will make a preliminary announcement of the devices as part of the Google I/O 2024 conference in May.
