New Mexico Modernizes Student Data with Statewide Synergy Education Platform

The New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) is poised to transform its K–12 data infrastructure with the implementation of the Synergy Education Platform, including Edupoint’s Synergy for States solution, marking a significant step towards improved student outcomes and streamlined administrative processes.
The initiative, announced February 5, 2026, addresses longstanding challenges with fragmented data systems across the state. For over a decade, PED officials have explored a unified student information system to replace the seven or more disparate systems currently in use. These older systems hindered efficient data sharing, complicated student transfers, and limited access to timely, accurate information crucial for reporting and analysis.
“Moving to a single statewide student information system is a major step forward for New Mexico,” stated Mariana Padilla, cabinet secretary of the New Mexico Public Education Department. “This initiative allows us to reduce costs, improve data quality, and ensure that districts and educators — as well as parents and students, who rely on the system to stay informed and engaged — have equitable access to modern, reliable tools that support teaching, learning, and student success.”
A Rigorous Selection Process
PED undertook a comprehensive evaluation process to identify the optimal solution. This included gathering input from stakeholders across the state, conducting product demonstrations, and meticulously reviewing functionality, usability, value, and cost. Feedback was collected from internal teams, an external advisory group, and power users from districts and charter schools. After two rounds of presentations, Synergy received a unanimous recommendation.
“As we evaluated statewide solutions, Synergy stood out for its ease of use, strong core functionality — including support for special services — and the overall value it delivers to districts,” explained Gregory Frostad, assistant secretary of the New Mexico Public Education Department. “Equally important was the Synergy for States analytics framework, which gives both PED and districts access to timely, actionable data to support better decision-making.”
Actionable Analytics for Improved Outcomes
Synergy for States will provide PED and local education agencies (LEAs) with access to advanced analytics beyond traditional dashboards. These tools will surface key patterns such as attendance trends, early warning indicators, and graduation readiness metrics, empowering educators and leaders to proactively address emerging issues and support student success.
Under the new statewide model, PED will make the full Synergy platform available to participating LEAs. This includes student information management and integrated solutions for teaching and learning, assessment, analytics, and a multi-layered system of supports, ensuring equitable access for districts and charter schools of all sizes.
From Compliance to Proactive Insight
According to a company release, Rob Wilson, President and Chief Innovation Officer at Edupoint Educational Systems, emphasized the platform’s core mission: “We designed Synergy for States specifically to help state education agencies turn data into action. By unifying student information, special services, instructional tools, and statewide analytics in a single platform, Synergy enables states and districts to move from compliance-driven reporting to proactive insight — supporting better outcomes for students at every level of the system.”
Implementation is scheduled to begin this summer, starting with an initial cohort of LEAs representing a significant portion of New Mexico’s student population, including both urban and rural districts, as well as charter schools.
