KUWAIT CITY: New norms are in effect for vehicles that distribute foodstuffs and daily necessities in the country. The General Traffic Department has informed that the deadline for implementation of the new rules has expired. With this, new standards have been implemented. Strict action will be taken including suspending the license of companies that do not comply with the law. The Ministry of Home Affairs has stated that action will be taken against the establishments that employ illegal domestic workers.
Health certificate for the delivery driver, company seal on the vehicle, visa-licensed employee at the delivery firm and uniform are the new rules. The order was to follow these from October. However, following the discussion held by the small and medium business owners with the Ministry of Home Affairs, they extended it to January by extending it by three months.
Most of the workers working in restaurants and hotels in Kuwait are foreigners. Strict implementation of the code of conduct will be a setback for thousands of foreigners including Malayalis. Meanwhile, the new decision is also expected to raise standards in the sector.
