Nine-euro ticket: You can experience these dream routes with regional trains

by time news

Romantic river valleys, spectacular urban landscapes or even the middle of the sea – the approximately 38,000 kilometer long rail network in Germany offers a lot of extraordinary connections that are worth traveling through.

And the best thing is: soon you will probably not need more than nine euros a month to experience these very special railway routes.

A nine-euro ticket enables travel on dream routes

“9 for 90” is the name of the offer that is in the starting blocks. It should actually be “27 for 92”, but one thing remains: unbeatably cheap.

The federal government’s plan: For nine euros a month, all public transport can be used in June, July and August – according to the latest information nationwide.

The program is actually intended to give people in the country an incentive to switch to bus and train on their way to work in the face of rising fuel prices. However, since the nine-euro ticket is scheduled to start on June 1, it would also offer trips through Germany almost free of charge during the summer holidays.

And even those who already have a monthly ticket for public transport should benefit from the nine-euro offer: the difference should be reimbursed. However, the Bundestag and Bundesrat still have to approve the whole project. (Read details about the planned nine-euro ticket here.)

Ticket should be valid in regional trains and regional express trains

Public transport in Germany includes regional trains and regional express trains, but also regular buses, trams, suburban and underground trains and in some places even ferries. However, the use of long-distance trains such as the ICE or the Intercity as well as long-distance buses should not be possible with the nine-euro ticket.

Nevertheless, regional trains can also cover considerable distances in the country and, for example, visit the sea and the mountains. (See the photo series “Through the country for nine euros a month: With these regional trains you will soon be able to make real journeys”).

But you can expect to get from A to B not only inexpensively from June – on many rail routes, the journey is also the destination and the view from the train window is the actual highlight of the journey.

In the photo series above you can see ten of Germany’s most spectacular train routes – and how you can experience them with regional trains.
