by time news

Nissan has resumed Sentra sales in Brazil. Now in the 2023 line, the medium sedan has gained the brand’s new visual standard, new equipment and is equipped with a 2.0-liter aspirated engine with 151 hp. Today in a reduced segment, the Sentra competes for space with the leader Toyota Corolla, Chevrolet Cruze and Caoa Chery Arrizo 6 with a price starting at R$ 148 thousand. See the prices and equipment of each version.

It is worth remembering that the Sentra returns with an eye on a segment that has been losing space in recent years. It will rival the Toyota Corolla, leader among medium sedans, Chevrolet Cruze, Caoa Chery Arrizo 6 and indirectly with the Volkswagen Jetta (today sold only in the GLI sports version with 2.0TSi engine) The new Nissan Sentra 2023 arrives in Brazil imported from Mexico. Visually, it brings the same standard Nissan Emotional Geometry Design already known in Kicks, which should win a hybrid version later this year.

updated look

The new 2023 Nissan Sentra is in line with the model sold in several markets including the United States. In this new line, the angular and geometric style proposed by the brand stands out. The new drop-shaped headlights stand out, which give greater sportiness by forming creases along the bodywork. The grille is shaped in “V-Motion” as is a tradition of the brand. The rear also features headlamps that overlap the boomerang-style trunk lid.

Inside, the sedan has a floating-type 8-inch multimedia center with connection to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay systems. The digital instrument panel is 7 inches. The model still features a steering wheel with a straight base and air vents inspired by the Nissan GTR sports car. There are more than 20 storage compartments, Bose sound system (in the Exclusive version), 12v outlet and USB ports.

In terms of size, the new Nissan Sentra 2023 is 4.64m long, 2.70m wheelbase, 1.81m wide and 1.45m high. The trunk has a capacity of 466 liters.

Under the hood, the new Nissan Sentra 2023 comes equipped with a 2.0-liter aspirated engine, which delivers 151 hp with 20 kgfm of torque. The transmission is an eighth generation CVT Xtronic type automatic.

The 2023 Sentra uses CMF-C/D platform and incorporates Nissan Intelligent Safety Shiled which is an active safety package with Intelligent Cruise Control, Advanced Forward Collision Alert, Front Emergency Brake, Lane Departure Alert, Time Stop Alert. blind, lane departure assistant, 360 degree vision, motion detector, cross traffic alert, driver attention alert, automatic headlights, electrochromic mirror and rear seat object alert, six airbags, Isofix, active cruise control traction and stability control.

Focus on traditional customers with a desire to innovate

During the launch of the New Sentra we had our first contact with the novelty. In this return of the sedan to the Brazilian market, it is clear that the proposal is to innovate in design but also to win back traditional customers among the Honda Civic orphans and those who have already “sick” of an SUV and want to go back to driving a sedan on the streets.

The new Nissan Sentra 2023 is a sedan with firm suspension, but without being uncomfortable for the driver and passengers. As a highlight is the position when driving with a Zero Gravity seat (zero gravity) with very comfortable foam that fits precisely to the body. However, it leaves something to be desired with a small multimedia center and buttons, reminiscent of old models, in addition to having only a wired connection with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Another point that could be better is the parking brake, which is activated with the left foot as in the old pick-ups and with an electronic drive. It also lacked an induction smartphone charger, but the interior comfort is good, as well as the finish, which is similar to that of premium vehicles with good quality leather and a soft touch.

The 151 hp 2.0 liter engine delivers good power being a traditional solution. It works with a CVT-type automatic transmission that leaves a little to be desired in the restarts and starts, at least in this first contact, but which adapts well to less hasty drivers. However, from 100 km/h the sedan manages to take off well on roads with acoustic silence, which is one of the most interesting points of the Sentra. The steering is firm and having a lower center of gravity makes the car even safer at higher speeds, allowing for more agile maneuvers despite the gearbox. Already in the urban stretch the more rigid suspension behaves well, ensuring internal comfort. From São Paulo to Nova Odessa, in the interior of São Paulo, the new Nissan Sentra 2023 recorded a consumption of 12 km with one liter in the stretch between the highway and the city, which is a good number for the medium sedan.

Soon we will have a more detailed account of the Sentra 2023 from a complete test in real conditions of use on the road and in the city. It remains to be seen whether it will win back customers who migrated to SUVs, the orphans of the Civic line and still bring customers who today only have the Corolla (today overshadowed by the Corolla Cross), Arrizo 6 (imported from China by Caoa Chery) and also the Chevrolet Cruze – the latter two turbocharged with the same power as the 2023 Sentra.
