The DPRK launched an unidentified projectile in the direction of the Sea of Japan, according to the South Korean Yonhap news agency, citing data from the joint command. Presumably, we are talking about a ballistic missile, the projectile has already fallen into the sea, the NHK channel reports statements by the Ministry of Defense and the Coast Guard of Japan.
This is the fourth launch carried out by the DPRK since the beginning of the year. On January 5 and 11, the North Korean military tested a hypersonic missile, and on January 14 they launched a ballistic missile from a railroad launcher.
The launches are being carried out against the background of sanctions imposed by the United States on a number of North Korean citizens living in Russia and China in connection with the promotion of weapons proliferation. The Russian LLC Parsek and its director Roman Alar also fell under the restrictions. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has said that Parsec is a key source of goods and technology for the North Korean nuclear program. The North Korean Foreign Ministry said the sanctions could be followed by “strong retaliatory measures.”
