This comes after North Korea announced yesterday that it had placed a reconnaissance satellite into orbit, which led South Korea to partially suspend the agreement, in response to Pyongyang’s action.
In a statement cited by the North Korean news agency, the Ministry of National Defense declared that the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea “will no longer be linked” by this agreement, “long ago reduced to a mere piece of paper”.
As an immediate consequence of the suspension of this agreement, Kim Jong Un’s regime also informed the deployment“of more powerful armed forces and military equipment in the region along the military demarcation line”.
According to South Korean intelligence services, the launch of a ballistic missile towards the Sea of Japan was also observed. According to this source, this launch was a failure.
