Representatives of Norway and Moldova signed a memorandum of understanding in the energy sector. This was reported by Reuters, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

According to him, this document cemented the intention of the two countries to “develop and deepen cooperation in the energy sector” between governments, scientific communities and representatives of the private sector, thereby ensuring the security of energy supplies to the Eastern European country.

Although the text of the document, as Reuters writes, also mentions gas supplies, it primarily concerns “renewable energy sources, electrification and cybersecurity.”

The memorandum was signed by the Norwegian Minister of Petroleum and Energy Terje Åsland and his Moldovan counterpart Victor Parlicov in Oslo.

Moldova is experiencing an energy crisis due to gas and electricity prices that have increased many times over two years. This triggered inflation, which exceeded 30% year on year. Due to rising prices for energy resources, the population’s debts for utility services are growing. Opposition protests have begun in the country, demanding the resignation of President Maia Sandu and the government of the ruling Action and Solidarity Party and holding early parliamentary elections. Protesters accuse the authorities of failing to cope with the economic crisis and falling living standards. The opposition is also outraged by the authorities’ decision to increase military spending and demands that funds be redirected to the social sphere.
