Norwegian Foreign Minister spoke out against NATO troops near the border of Russia – RBK

It is important for Norway to cope with military tasks near the Russian border without the help of NATO allies, said the head of the country’s Foreign Ministry Anniken Witfeldt in an interview with VG.

“For Norway, it is important to have a military presence in the areas close to us. But, in our opinion, it will be better if we manage ourselves in the immediate vicinity of the Russian border – with the help of Norwegian aircraft and frigates, ”Witfeldt said.

The Minister noted that Norway aims at a dialogue with the United Kingdom and the United States on the issue of further removal of ships and aircraft from the border with Russia. At the same time, the allied countries must themselves decide on military actions.

Witfeldt drew attention to the fact that Norway seeks to contain and de-escalate the situation, while fully dependent on NATO security guarantees.

NATO Secretary General called the thesis that Russia has a sphere of influence unacceptable
