In preparation for the upcoming celebration of the Feast of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary to her cousin Saint Elizabeth, on May 31, towards the end of the month of Mary, her traditional novena begins today.
According to the Gospels, at the Annunciation the Archangel Gabriel told Mary that just as she would be the Mother of Jesus, her cousin Saint Elizabeth, “despite her old age, has conceived a son, and the one who is now six months old called sterile, because for God nothing is impossible”.
The Archangel Gabriel thus made known to him the birth of Saint John the Baptist.
The Virgin went to the aid of Saint Elizabeth and stayed with her for three months.
