Every August 5 begins the novena to Saint Maximilian Kolbe, a priest and member of the order of conventual friars minor, who died a martyr in the Nazi concentration camp at Auschwitz.
“For Jesus Christ I am willing to suffer anything. The Immaculate is with me and She helps me ”, used to say the holy martyr who offered his life in exchange for that of a father of a family sentenced to death.
On July 29, 2016, as part of his trip to Poland, Pope Francis reached the so-called “hunger cell” in Auschwitz, where Saint Maximilian Kolbe died. There he prayed silently for about six minutes.
