Nvidia at Computex 2023 presented Avatar Cloud Engine, a service that will help video game developers create more advanced artificial intelligence for non-player characters (NPCs) in video games. The service will help in creating AI models that generate more natural speech and movements of NPCs.

According to NVIDIA vice president of technology for developers John Spitzer, the use of generative AI will significantly increase the degree of immersion in the game through new opportunities for interactive interaction with NPCs.

NVIDIA NeMo will help deploy language models according to the characters’ backgrounds, NVIDIA Riva will be able to recognize speech and convert text to speech to help with natural conversation, and NVIDIA Omniverse Audio2Face will develop facial animation for the speech track.

Nvidia presented a demo where the player could talk to the owner of the cafe, which was developed using Avatar Cloud Engine technology and spoke to the player in natural language and taking into account the backstory of the narrative.

Previously, The Wall Street Journal wrote that video game developers are increasingly using artificial intelligence to create video games, and Ubisoft introduced the generative AI Ghostwriter, designed to make it easier for scriptwriters to write lines for NPCs.
