New Delhi: The Union government has told the Rajya Sabha that nine states, including Kerala, have not reduced VAT on petrol and diesel. During the question and answer session, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that despite the crisis, there was a nominal increase in petrol prices.

‘Fuel prices will rise by at least 50 per cent in different parts of the world. But in India, fuel prices have risen by only 5 per cent. This is a victory for the central government. Otherwise family budgets would be out of tune.

Oil companies are losing about Rs 5.70 per liter due to non-increase in fuel prices. It is the responsibility of the Center to make up for this loss, ”he said.
