On the hunt for pike-perch: the “cooking pot anglers” from HafenCity | Regional

by time news

Hamburg – A bizarre picture in the new Baakenhafen quarter to the east of the Elbphilharmonie: 80 anglers throw out their rods between concrete blocks and construction cranes, drop nets into the water – and fish for pike-perch in the historic harbor basin.

Important: Always keep enough distance so as not to get in each other’s enclosures.

“Cooking pot angler” Jan (37) from Trittau: “Pikeperch fillet costs 40 euros per kilo in the shop, I can’t afford that anymore. Everything is more expensive, so there is something good to eat at the weekend.”

At educator Tim (30, from Talkau) the ninth zander bit within three hours.

Eight had to go back into the water. Because the freshwater predatory fish may only be removed if it is between 45 and 70 centimeters long.

Tim: “The ninth was 60 centimeters, can come with me. I can eat from that for two days.”

Why is everyone going zander hunting in Baakenhafen?

Angler Sven (55): “In winter, the small forage fish retreat to the tanks and the zander follow them. The conditions are great here.”

Prerequisite: a valid fishing license and proof that the Hamburg fishing fee has been paid. This is because the fisheries control staff regularly check this.

By the way: Fishing is also possible without a fishing license under certain circumstances. However, not in all states.
