LOSC has lost one of its biggest fans. Jacques Delors died this Wednesday at the age of 98. The former Minister of the Economy of François Mitterrand and ex-collaborator of Jacques Chaban-Delmas was known to be an ardent supporter of the Lille club.

The current 5th in Ligue 1 wanted to pay him a tribute on social networks. “LOSC salutes the memory of one of its oldest and faithful supporters: Jacques Delors, distinguished statesman, writes the club on X (formerly Twitter). To his daughter and mayor of Lille Martine Aubry, as well as to his family and all those close to him, the club and its leaders send their sincere condolences. »

“I didn’t leave Lille”

His words have been rare for many years in public debate. A figure of the left and of European construction, this did not prevent Jacques Delors from going to the stadium as on May 14, 2011 at the Stade de France. The former minister, scarf around his neck, attended Lille’s 6th Coupe de France victory against PSG (1-0).

But where did his love for LOSC come from? “My grandfather was Belgian, I went to Flanders, in the North, all that meant that I went to Olympique Lille which I did not leave afterwards”, replied Jacques Delors to the Losc TV channel in 2011.

His daughter, Martine Aubry, who became mayor of Lille, would ultimately follow in his footsteps by appearing regularly in the stands of the Pierre-Mauroy stadium.
