OnePlus fans hoping for a follow-up to the OnePlus Open are facing disappointment. According to a report from Smartprix, citing Indian tech tipster Yogesh Brar, OnePlus has reportedly canceled plans to release the OnePlus Open 2.
The foldable, initially slated for a global debut in the third quarter of 2026—between July and September—would have been a flagship launch, continuing the “Open” brand before the anticipated release of the OnePlus 15 later that year.
A Potentially Excellent Foldable, Now Scrapped
The Open 2 was reportedly in advanced testing, with specifications finalized. Believed to be a rebranded version of the Oppo Find N6, the device could have boasted an 8.12-inch 2K foldable display and a 6.6-inch AMOLED cover screen, both featuring a remarkably fast 165Hz refresh rate.
Performance-wise, the foldable was expected to deliver top-tier speed and gaming capabilities thanks to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. It also would have included a triple-rear camera system with 50MP sensors, including a telephoto zoom lens.
A substantial 6,000 mAh battery, supporting 80W wired and 50W wireless charging, was also in the plans for this book-style foldable. However, these upgraded specs and performance improvements would have likely increased the price (the OnePlus Open currently retails for $1,699), a factor potentially exacerbated by the looming memory crisis impacting the smartphone industry.
This price sensitivity is likely the reason OnePlus decided to halt the project. Had it launched, the Open 2 would have directly competed with the Galaxy Z Fold 8, and potentially surpassed it with its faster refresh rate, improved cameras, and larger battery (with faster charging capabilities).
The Specs Live On, Under a Different Name
The good news? The hardware and software combination planned for the OnePlus Open 2 will live on as the Oppo Find N6, available in select markets. Unfortunately, Oppo has not released any Find N series foldables in the United States, and that’s not expected to change this year.
It appears OnePlus is, at least for now, pausing its pursuit of the foldable phone market.
