Subsequently, the government also sent a reply letter to the governor explaining it. However, the Bill has not yet been approved by the Governor. Meanwhile, six weeks after the passage of the bill, the bill is about to expire as of today as the Governor has not yet given his assent. In this situation, APC leader Anbumani Ramadoss has insisted that the Governor should give his approval by today.

Regarding this, Anbumani Ramadoss on his Twitter page said, “The Ordinance passed on October 1 to ban online gambling in Tamil Nadu expires today as per the provisions of the Constitution. The reason for this situation is that the Governor did not get the approval of the law passed instead. According to Article 213 (2) (A) of the Constitution of India, the Ordinance shall expire six weeks from the date of sitting of the Legislative Assembly. The Ordinance expires six weeks after the Assembly convenes on October 17.

Once the ban on online gambling expires, online gambling will resume in full swing in Tamil Nadu. In last 15 months in Tamil Nadu 32 people committed suicide after losing money in online gambling. A ban on online gambling is essential to prevent this. The Online Gambling Prohibition Bill has been passed by the Legislature and sent to the Governor. The government has given a clear answer to the governor’s doubts about this. Accepting it, the Governor should approve the Online Gambling Prohibition Act by today.”
